My favorite Willy Wonka line is right at the very end: "Don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted. . . . He lived happily ever after." Such an incredible, striking note of optimism. (I saw that you had noted to the post about it that he was a bad guy written by a bad guy, but I love that movie quote. Takes the wind out of the sails of the "You should like not having what you want" people.)
I loved that movie. I consider it a piece of my childhood. But it's not without cringe now that I know what I know as an adult. Which seems to be the case with most mainstream culture and especially entertainment.
Definitely challenging. The majority of culture has been crafted to deliberately include elements of indoctrination at every turn. I think the best we can do is see and understand it. Avoiding it altogether would be massively difficult. Opting out breaks relatability even for things we don't want to find relatable because then we have no shared context upon which to build mutual experience. We'd have to build something entirely different and share in the context of that. I'm not sure I especially want to share in the context creation choices of most of the people doing that either. Lol. What can you do? 🤷🏻♀️🤣
Yeah, it's sad that most of what we have to draw from is just definitely part of the system, and definitely propaganda. You should see the acrobatics Matt on Quantum of Conscience goes through, saying, "Yeah, guys, I haven't thrown out my TV. I know all you truthers are so hardcore." Lol.
Lol! I still have a TV too. But I don't watch TV on it. I connect other things to it to watch them bigger and to be comfortable doing so if it's for a longer period of time. "Hardcore" is so silly to me. I don't need any weird hipster street cred. They can keep it. lol.
Honestly, I think the best case scenario is just in making conscious choices more often than not. We need to try to be active and aware of what we consume and why. Past that point, it might be too much effort for no real pay off.
Thank you Demi, I am inspired to take a day off and just read all these. It is a very special thing you are doing, like a tide you float all boats. Plus very interesting writers covering a huge range of humanity. Very generous of you.
Excellent round up, Demi! Thank you!

Can’t get away from it, lol. Or rarely do.

And Thanks!
My pleasure!
Sending you much love and gratitude Demi for including my work among so much talent! Thank you! ✨💜🤗💜✨
