Yeah those places are revolting lol I'll go out into the countryside or those little ancient pubs in the small coastal villages every other week with a couple of my good friends (well, my only good friends) always plenty of things to explore like ruined Medieval forts and towers, caves and so on... been more than once we've got a bit too carried away on the ale and had to sleep it off in my car!🤣
I shall now take a bit of exception to Charlotte's description of Harry Houdini's work, about which he wrote in books, essays, and letters to various publications. Houdini and his wife did discuss how he would, after passing off the mortal coil, communicate to her non-verbally that it was indeed he present with her. So he was not averse to the idea of spiritual powers. But it is also the case that he felt that many charlatans were defrauding people of their money. So he arranged to show how some of the things done in seances could be done using stage magic techniques known to him. The atheistical stage magicians Penn & Teller do much the same work on some of their television shows that I've occasionally had inflicted upon me in various living situations. Showing "how the trick could be done" is not proving that it is always a trick. But I will say that there are indeed, as Charlotte notes, groups of people who seek to deter the vast population of the knowledge of spiritual matters. It is well to know what gifts God wants us to have, and to be grateful for those gifts which are given. God's will be done. Amen.
As for keeping his name in the press after he died, that kept sales of his books up and his widow needed the money. So did his publishers.

No I haven't sadly - nearly 7 years single now lol - too many here are either right up themselves which is the personality equivalent of grade 18 sandpaper, others just want to 'party' in dive-bars blasting that headache-inducing hiphop til 4am all the time, or somewhat broken by 'modernity'. The ones with genuine strength of character, intelligence and feminine beauty have either been claimed already, had the sense to get away if they can- or they've found one hell of a good hiding place!😃

The autoincorrect represents the arrogance of those writing software who believe they know what words are best. I don't believe they do, but my phone "settings" doesn't provide for turning it off, which is among the pleasures of using this laptop keyboard instead. Ubuntu doesn't force things on me.

There is a passage in Neal Stephenson's 1993 break-out novel _Snow Crash_ in which his protagonist YT (which stands for yours truly, though I gather from context she is single white female skateboard thrasher courier) has geared up for some alarming encounters and then has a romantic encounter with a glass knife wielding Aleutian kayak surfer and motorcyclist whose side car is a nuclear bomb from a captured submarine. She has by this point in the narrative forgotten that she had the device within, and her intended romantic partner is drugged unconscious by a tiny injection upon initial penetration. Self-defence has many useful tools, real and imaginary.
